Salt Heart - K.L Pezzutto

Rating: 🦄🦄🦄🦄 4/5

This review is about a short novella that I had the pleasure to read this weekend. The story tells us about mermaids, but don't be fooled by the name, these aren't your "Little Mermaid" kind.

We follow our protagonist Katie, who is the daughter of Halifax's police chief and who investigates the sightings of some humanoid figures that are scaring everyone near Clam Harbour Beach.

Despite the warnings issued by her father, Katie wakes up at 2 a.m. due to some insomnia and decides to take a calming walk to and around the beach.

The beach calm and deserted as she lays in the sand when she suddenly hears a groan.

If you want to know what happens in this thrilling short novella, go ahead and check out Salt Heart. I highly recommend it for a short yet fascinating read.

Below also you can find an small interview with the author.

1. What inspired you to write Salt Heart?

- In ancient times oceans were a symbol for chaos and ultimately, death. Many societies saw the sea as provision but also as a formidable foe. Humanity’s duplicitous view of the oceanic realm reminds me of myself. I, just like my main character, am constantly torn between moral ambiguity. I hide from the darkest, most frightening parts of my nature and let my hope drown. I wrote the book to explore the possibility of escaping from the darkness of my mind and finding light in fear.

2. Will there be a sequel to the story?

- I will be writing a book called “No Angel” that is found in the same “universe” so Kai may pop up to say hello.

3. Is this your first novella/book?

- This is my first!

4. Who are your favorite authors?

- Ted Dekker, Frank Peretti, Tosca Lee and C.S Lewis

 5. Which are your top 3 books?

 - The circle series by Ted Dekker, Demon by Tosca Lee and Screwtape Letters by C.S Lewis
